Youth Group Fundraising

Youth group fundraising is a task that many church and community groups encounter frequently when their young people need to raise money for their trip or activity. Youth group fundraisers need to be simple enough to organize and yet profitable for the group. The fundraiser should offer something of value to the community so that they will be happy to spend their money on it.

  • Youth group fundraising ideas that are profitable and easy include:

  • Bake sales: These can be held in the parking lot of local businesses. The baked items are typically donated by members of the group who bake.

  • Benefit Dinners: Youth group fundraising can be accomplished with benefit dinners. Some of the more popular dinner are spaghetti dinners, hamburger and hotdog sales, and pancake dinners.

  • Car Wash: These may be old standby fundraisers but they remain a popular fundraising choice that may youth groups enjoy doing. The profits vary according to how much effort is put into advertising the carwash and whether or not it is a donation car wash or a set price.

  • Doughnuts: Selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts on a Saturday morning outside the local Wal-Mart's front door is another old but successful fundraising project. The group sets up a date with Krispy Kreme to pick up the doughnuts on a Saturday morning. Krispy Kreme has them ready, hot and fresh. Typically, the doughnuts are sold within a few hours of setting up the tables.

  • Product sales are successful and if the product is appealing to the community can be an easy way to raise money. The company that distributes the product should also have a program that is easy to follow and be available to help if the group should need it. Fun Pasta is the best example of a product that is liked by everyone with a program that is easy to follow.

Once the youth group fundraising project has been chosen, the group needs to organize and choose someone to be in charge of the project. This person will be responsible for enforcing deadlines, tracking the progress of the project and keeping accurate records for groups in the future.

The leader of the group is also responsible for making sure each member knows what is expected of them individually. When members have a goal to reach they are motivated to reach it. It is a proven fact that projects without goals do not fare as well because no one is motivated to an end result.

If the group is small there may be the need to enlist volunteers to help with the fundraiser. Volunteers can come from family members and friends of the group members who are willing to donate their time to help the group with the fundraiser.

Finally, youth group fundraising requires publicity in order to be successful. The community needs to be aware of the project and what they are helping support. Publicity can be in the form of newspaper advertisements in local newspapers and community event journals, radio ads, flyers and poster that are distributed around town and email blasts to as many people as possible. The group can also use social networking sites to get the word out about the fundraiser.

Youth group fundraising does not have to be a difficult task. With the help of volunteers and a little bit of research to determine the fundraiser to pursue, youth groups can raise the money they need to keep their activities scheduled and continue to function as a part of the community.
