Youth Fundraiser

The prospect of yet another youth fundraiser sends many parents running. They know that the groups need to raise money for their activities and events but they also hate to see another box of chocolate coming in their direction. Worse yet, they get asked to head up the fund raiser and need to come up with ideas that aren't boring for the community and the youth who will be doing the work to raise the money.

Fundraisers do not have to be sales pitches. Most people automatically think of product sales when they hear fundraiser. However, there are other events and ideas that don't involve catalogs or candy bars and can be just as profitable if not more so. This doesn't mean that sales fundraisers can't be profitable. What it does mean is that product choice is very important in making a product fundraiser successful.

One youth fundraiser that draws a lot of attention is a benefit dinner. This can be a gala affair that goes all out or a simple pancake dinner. The community typically responds well to these and the profits are often very good, particularly if the dinner is put together using donations. Even though it is more involved and takes more planning, a festive gala dinner can raise an enormous amount of money. Again, the chef and all the trimmings would need to be donated in order for the dinner to be profitable. These events are usually adult dinners.

A youth fundraiser that is more family friendly would be an arts and crafts festival complete with kiddie activities. Funds are raised from ticket sales and concessions as well as any tables or booths that are sponsored by members of the youth group. Community members can be invited to buy a booth in the festival to sell their crafts. The money raised from renting the booth space is simply another way that the group raises money for its needs.

Arts and crafts festivals require more pre-planning and organizing than other events. Every detail has to be covered and contingency plans in place in the event that someone doesn't show up or the weather is bad. On the other hand, the community enjoys events that bring families together for a day of fun and the profits are typically very good from these events.

Group yard sales are another type of youth fundraiser that can be a success. The group asks it members to donate their yard sale items to the rummage sale. Advertising is important to make this fundraiser a success. Local newspapers often have a section where they advertise yard sales free. Flyers and posters should be posted around town. The members should also advertise on social networks. The amount of advertising that comes from these networks is more than can be gained in local papers and journals.

For reason unknown to man, one man's trash is another man's treasure and yard sales are very popular. Once the community finds out about the multi-family yard sale and the fact that it is a fundraiser the success will grow immensely.

Youth fundraisers do not have to make people run away and hide when they see the kids coming towards them. Instead they can be happy when they see advertisements for family events and dinners that will raise money for the youth group while at the same time being a family time for them.

Youth fundraisers are important in helping to keep youth groups functioning and able to help young people grow and mature without being on the streets looking for something to do and getting into trouble.
