Club Fundraisers

Schools often have a variety of clubs that students have formed. These generally are associated with their interests or activities, like chess, music, dance or drama. The school has to approve the formation of the club but does not have to include it in its budget. This makes having a club fundraiser a necessity in order to purchase items that are needed for the club and to allow the club to do activities.

College level clubs require more funding than high school clubs require and require more in the way of club fundraisers. College clubs are usually well organized with a hierarchy that includes a treasurer who reports on the state of the club's funds and may make suggestions for fundraisers.

Clubs at both the high school and the college level have many options for obtaining funds. One is to solicit donations from large businesses in the town. Club members can put together a letter requesting donations or they can visit the businesses in person and ask for a voluntary donation to help the club. Many businesses will sponsor a club for the school year in return for being listed as a club sponsor at events and on printed materials.

Clubs can organize fundraiser events to make money. These are big hits with other students and the community as well. There are many types of events that groups can use to make money. Barbecue and chili cook-offs are popular events that can raise large sums of money for the club. There contestants pay an entry fee and the attendees purchase tickets and pay a gate fee. Cook-offs typically have food vendors and an area for the kids that have face painting or a petting zoo.

College clubs can organize music festivals where local bands display their talent. These are big hits with campus students and will also draw some of the local community to the event. Money is raised from the gate fee, concession sales and t-shirt sales if the club chooses to have them printed for the event. If the music will go into the evening the club can also sell light bracelets. These glow in the dark and are popular at outdoor events.

Club fundraisers also include product sales. These fundraisers are either direct sales fundraiser where the product is in hand and sold to customers. Catalog sales programs are products featured in catalogs and delivered to customers after the sale ends. Both types of sales programs work well, the key is choosing a product that will be liked by the majority of the people.

Product selections for fundraising campaigns are vast. There are online fundraising companies that offer practically any product for a fundraising project. There are candy bars and lollipops, cookie dough and pasta products, scratch cards, discount cards, coupon books and so much more. Clubs can experiment with different ones at various times of the year to determine which one works best for them.

Club fundraisers help the clubs in many more ways than simply funding their activities. These fundraisers help to teach the club members the importance of fiscal responsibility and teamwork to accomplish a common goal. Deadlines and stress are all a part of fundraising and helps the group to mature as they raise the funds needed for the club. For some group members it is a first step to being independent and able to solve problems without the help of mama and daddy.

Club fundraisers are held in both high school and colleges and even some community clubs have them to keep their clubs financially sound. These activities can be both fun and profitable for the community and the group holding the event.
